HALL CROFT, DUFTON

Hall Croft is a Victorian house in the Westmorland village of Dufton. Frei and Ray Walker have been lovingly restoring this large, four storey detached house and the substantial gardens that surround it before offering bed and breakfast accommodation to guests who want high quality facilities in an idyllic setting. We have now completely refurbished two large guest rooms (one double, one twin) and provided high quality en-suite facilities. We have also restored the period dining room/lounge which is available to guests.

Dufton is a classic English village, built around a beautiful village green. The village is on the edge of the Pennines, which rise up dramatically behind it, and is on the Pennine Way. It is incredibly quiet and yet is just 3 miles north of Appleby and the A66 and some 12 miles from the M6. Hall Croft faces up the village green and is 150 metres from the village pub (which provides meals). There is a wide network of paths from the village and the Woodland Trust woods of Dufton Ghyll lie immediately behind the house. The Lake District is just 30 minutes drive away.

Duftons tranquillity is a wonderful contrast to most parts of the country and Hall Croft is ideal for a peaceful and leisurely break or as a quiet interlude on a business or leisure journey to Scotland. However it is also an ideal centre for an activity holiday, particularly for those who walk, run or cycle. We are more than willing to give advice on routes or, occasionally, to lead runs or cycle rides in the dramatic countryside in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our first guests have been very positive about the food and accommodation provided (there are even video machines in the rooms). Breakfasts are substantial and include a wide and varied range of home baked and home made produce (we don’t serve meat). We offer home make cake and tea/coffee when guests arrive or return each afternoon and packed lunches are also available. Special dietary needs can be catered for.
